More Inspiration - Macaron cardigan

Monday, September 21, 2015

Since we've moved to the suburbs, venturing out into the city is considered "an outing" in our house. We all enjoy our little trips, and make an effort to keep things interesting.

Before the start of school, we took the kids to one of Montreal's prettiest outdoor markets, "Atwater market".

It is always such an enjoyable experience. Fresh produce everywhere, the smells and colours all delicious and tempting. My favourite spots is this little patisserie, tucked away in a corner. We always make a pit-stop there, to enjoy a cappuccino or hot chocolate and a macaron.

When I walked in this time, and saw their display, it hit me...this would be a perfect colour combination for a girl's cardigan. Inspiration is funny that way, it lurks in the strangest places.

My project is a girl cardigan called "Semis de printemps". It is another gift for my nieces. Their mom had asked for a simple go-to cardigan that can be used any-time, and this pattern is just that.

The yarn I chose to use for it is Noro Tayo Sock, in a colourway that perfectly suits my inspiration.

If you recall, I just spoke about colour inspiration in my previous post. To me, it is such an important part of choosing a project to work on.

I'm wondering...what inspires you when you choose yarn for a project?

  1. You live in Montreal? I live in Terrebonne :) What a beautiful cardigan! I just added it to my Ravelry queue! To choose colors, I'm not very original. I often pick one that's very similar to the pattern :)

    1. What a small world! I am on the North shore, St- Dorothee. I tend to have fun with colour....it's easier then experimenting with different yarns...

  2. wow, that looks like the prettiest market ever! And I love the little sweater, the colourful stripes are so perfect for a little girl. I don't have a set yarn I use for a specific project, except for maybe knitted toys- Rowan Handknit cotton is pretty awesome for knitted toys.

  3. Love these pictures - I just want to be there. It takes me forever to find the inspiration - it is really a long process. Sometimes I see a fashion picture, forget about it, and then see another version, and come back to it and try to work out how I will make it. Other times, it is another blogger, and I just have to make the pattern... The yarn always come last - unless it is already in my stash, then I feel a bit limited to be honest..

    1. I know what you mean, I never have an easy time choosing either. SO many possibilities!

  4. Such a nice family outing - and I love how closely your yarn choice parallels that tower of macaroons :) I made a quilt once out of fabric that was called "Farmers Market" and your pictures of all the berries and produce looks just like it. Farmers markets are clearly good sources for inspiration! I'm currently trying (again) to clear out some of the stash and it's funny how yarn that was purchased for a particular project doesn't always remain an inspiration! I've done a lot of resorting and re-pattern-assigning as I've changed my mind and needed new inspiration. Some stayed firmly linked together (my campside shawl, although slow, is in the perfect shade of purple), whereas several "kits" have been taken apart and resorted to new projects that suit their destination or my knitting mood better than it did a year (or more) ago when I bought the yarn!

  5. I haven't been to Atwater Market in a long time. I should find some time to go next Spring-Summer... The little cardi is adorable and the colors are lovely! I am sure your niece will wear it well!
